This page is dedicated to biographies of the people in Cruz Verde who have inspired Five Stones Volunteers to continue our work. Despite hardships such as hunger and lack of jobs or education, the people are bright, warm, and generous with what little they have. They can smile even in suffering, and demonstrate an amazing capacity for working hard and maintaining a cheerful disposition. They are our friends, our confidantes, our inspiration.
Manuel
Anyone who has ever volunteered for Sister Island Project would have a lot to say about Manuel. Formerly, he worked for Sister Island to coordinate service trips. Manuel was always the smiling face who picked us up at the airport, he was the person who acted as both friend and body guard when we took trips into the city. Recently, he decided to leave Sister Island to pursue his own dreams of learning English and owning his own ceramics shop. Manuel is currently taking English and computer classes in Santo Domingo, the capital city. He works the night shift as a security guard.
